Release
Published annually, covering the full year and subject to revision.
What it is
GDP measures the value of all final goods and services produced in Bangladesh and is the broadest gauge of the size and growth of its economy. It is compiled by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
How it's calculated
Estimated by reconciling the output, expenditure and income approaches in real terms and reported by fiscal year (July to June). Annual GDP growth is released alongside sectoral estimates.
Market implications
It is the benchmark for the cycle of one of South Asia's most populous economies, heavily reliant on textiles and remittances. Robust growth underpins employment and the taka and steers Bangladesh Bank policy.
Limitations
It is released with a marked lag and sizeable revisions, and the series' base has been debated. Measurement faces coverage limitations, particularly in the large informal sector.
