GDP (annual) in Belarus

Gross Domestic Product (GDP) measures the value of all final goods and services produced in Belarus over a period. Published by the National Statistical Committee (Belstat), it is the broadest gauge of the size and pace of the Belarusian economy.

Belstat estimates it via the expenditure, output and income approaches, which must reconcile. It is released in levels and as year-on-year (YoY) growth, often in real cumulative terms against the same period of the previous year.

It is the cyclical reference for an economy heavily dependent on state industry and trade with Russia. Solid growth reflects external demand and regional integration, while a fall would signal the impact of sanctions and Russian conditions on activity.

It is released with a lag and its reliability is limited by the large weight of the public sector and by concerns over statistical transparency. It is subject to revisions and poorly captures price distortions and state subsidies.
