Unemployment rate (annual) in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Measures the share of Bosnia and Herzegovina's labour force that is without a job but available for and actively seeking work. It is published by the Agency for Statistics of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BHAS) and is the main gauge of the country's labour market.

Calculated as the unemployed divided by the labour force (employed plus unemployed), multiplied by 100, drawn from the Labour Force Survey under ILO definitions. It is reported as an annual average and differs from registered unemployment recorded at employment offices.

Bosnia carries high structural unemployment and a large informal economy, so the reading is key to assessing economic health and emigration pressures. A fall points to stronger momentum; monetary policy has little room to respond, as the convertible mark operates under a currency board pegged to the euro.

The survey figure is subject to sampling error and revisions, and the gap with registered unemployment is very wide. It poorly captures the informal economy and underemployment, while heavy emigration distorts the size of the labour force.
