What it is
Brazil's population records the country's number of inhabitants and its evolution over time. It is a structural indicator underpinning many economic and social ratios (GDP per capita, density, per-capita rates). The figures are compiled by the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics).
How it's calculated
It is derived from the IBGE's decennial censuses and from intercensal projections that update the figure with births, deaths and net migration. A population figure is typically given for an annual reference date.

Limitations
