About this indicator

National Statistics Institute (INE Chile), republished via Central Bank of Chile (BCCh) web service
Frequency
Monthly
Release
In the same monthly INE bulletin as the headline CPI (around the 8th, 08:00 Chile time).
What it is
Core CPI (SAE, excluding food and energy) strips out the most volatile items from Chile's headline CPI basket to isolate the underlying inflation trend. It is the gauge the central bank watches most closely when setting monetary policy.
How it's calculated
It is built like the headline CPI (2023=100, INE) but excludes food and energy (fuels, electricity, gas), the categories most exposed to supply shocks. Monthly and year-on-year changes are reported.
Market implications
This is the price measure that weighs most on the Banco Central de Chile's rate decisions: core inflation persistently above target points to tighter policy and tends to be supportive of the peso.
Limitations
The INE does not publish this series through its own API; the available programmatic route is the Banco Central de Chile's re-release (SieteRestWS service), which flags the figure as official INE data. The original source remains the INE.
