What it is	The Consumer Price Index (CPI) is a statistical research that measures the average price of a property set and end services that consumers demand percentage change. The widespread and continuous growth of prices of goods and services in an economy is called inflation and on the other hand, widespread and continuous fall in the same price, is called deflation.
How it's calculated	The CPI calculation is based on the relative pricing source for reporting, through a weighted arithmetic average, the different indices of the basket. Total CPI calculation city or country is based on the calculation of indices by income level city or national.
Market implications	The basket, for price monitoring and the weighting structure that consolidates information about prices in different aggregates to have full information is obtained from a specialized survey applied regularly DANE, called Survey of Income and Expenses ( EIG).
Limitations	The monthly average price variation is obtained from a representative basket of goods and services consumption of households in the country.
