Frequency
Monthly
Release
Roughly one to two months after the reference quarter closes (advance estimate and final figure).
What it is
GDP measures the value of all final goods and services produced in Cyprus over a period and is the broadest gauge of the size and pace of its economy. It is compiled by the Cypriot statistical service (CyStat) under EU standards.
How it's calculated
Estimated under the ESA 2010 framework, reconciling the output, expenditure and income approaches, and released in seasonally adjusted chain-linked volumes. Quarterly changes (quarter-on-quarter and year-on-year) are published as a flash estimate and later revisions.
Market implications
It is the benchmark for reading the cycle of the Cypriot economy, heavily exposed to tourism and financial services. As a euro-area member it feeds the ECB's aggregate picture, though its small size limits its impact on the euro.
Limitations
The first flash estimate comes with a lag and is revised in later releases, so it is not final. In a small, open economy, volatile items such as financial services and shipping can distort a single quarter.
