What it is
Gross Domestic Product (GDP) measures the value of all final goods and services produced in the Czech Republic over a given period. Published by the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ), it is the broadest gauge of the size and pace of growth of the Czech economy.
How it's calculated
Estimated via the expenditure (consumption, investment and net trade), output (sector value added plus net product taxes) and income approaches, which must reconcile. A flash estimate and a more detailed release are published, in quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) and year-on-year (YoY) terms on seasonally adjusted data.
Market implications
The main reference for gauging the health and cycle of the Czech economy. Its path shapes the Czech National Bank's (ČNB) decisions on interest rates, the koruna and market expectations; stronger-than-expected growth tends to support rates and the currency.
Limitations
Released several weeks after the quarter it covers, and the flash estimate is revised in later releases, so the first reading is not final.
