What it is
GDP measures the value of all final goods and services produced in the Dominican Republic and is the broadest gauge of the size and growth of its economy. It is compiled by the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic (BCRD).
How it's calculated
Estimated by reconciling the output, expenditure and income approaches in real terms. The BCRD publishes annual GDP growth and a higher-frequency monthly economic activity index (IMAE).
Market implications
It is the benchmark for the Dominican cycle, a Caribbean economy heavily reliant on tourism, remittances and free-trade zones. Firm growth supports the peso and gives the BCRD room, while a slowdown tilts policy towards stimulus.
Limitations
Early figures are revised and released with some lag, so they are not final. Heavy reliance on tourism and remittances exposes the data to external shocks and seasonality.
