Release
Published annually, referring to a specific date in the year.
What it is
Measures the total population of Ecuador and how it evolves over time. It is compiled by the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC) and is a structural indicator underpinning ratios such as GDP per capita, density and per-head rates.
How it's calculated
INEC derives the figure from the population and housing censuses and from intercensal projections, updated with births, deaths and net migration. It is reported as the population at an annual reference date.
Market implications
Demographics shape Ecuador's potential growth, labour market, domestic consumption and social-spending pressures. It is a structural release with little market impact but decisive for public planning.
Limitations
It is a low-frequency figure, and intercensal numbers are projections subject to revision with each new census or better migration data, and are particularly sensitive to recent migration flows.
