Release Habitualmente en la segunda quincena del mes de referencia.
What it isConsumer confidence is a sentiment index measuring Finnish households' perceptions of the general economic situation and of their own financial position, both current and expected. It is compiled by Statistics Finland (Tilastokeskus) and is a leading indicator of private consumption.
How it's calculatedIt is drawn from a monthly survey of a representative sample of households, with questions on the country's economy, their own finances, employment, their ability to save and buying intentions. The index summarises the balance between optimistic and pessimistic replies.
Market implicationsThe higher the confidence, the more likely households are to raise their spending. Since consumption is the largest component of GDP, it is a useful leading indicator of the direction of the Finnish economy and of demand pressures.
LimitationsAs a survey it is subject to sampling error and to the limits of sentiment measures; moreover, stated confidence does not always translate into actual spending.
