Monthly Trend Indicator of Output in Finland

Tracks the monthly volume of output for the Finnish economy as a whole. It is the indicator that anticipates GDP between one quarter and the next: it is built from the same sources as the national accounts but published monthly, giving an early read on the cycle.

Chain-linked volume index, base 2015 = 100, built from monthly output indicators for each industry and aggregated by each industry's share of value added. Published seasonally and working-day adjusted.

Several months of gains point to a growing quarter, and vice versa. Because it arrives before the quarterly accounts, it is the first thing to shift expectations about the Finnish economy.

It is a provisional estimate and gets revised when the quarterly accounts arrive, sometimes noticeably. Being monthly it is noisier than GDP: read the trend over several months rather than a single print.
