Release
Published annually, covering the full year and subject to revision.
What it is
GDP measures the value of all final goods and services produced in Iran and is the broadest gauge of the size and growth of its economy. It is compiled by the Central Bank of Iran and the Statistical Centre of Iran.
How it's calculated
Estimated by reconciling the output, expenditure and income approaches in real terms and reported by Persian calendar year as well as by quarter. Growth is typically released both with and without oil.
Market implications
It is the benchmark for Iran's cycle, an economy heavily shaped by oil and international sanctions. Solid growth eases domestic pressures, and the weight of crude makes the non-oil measure especially important to watch.
Limitations
It is released with a lag and revisions, and very high inflation complicates the conversion to real terms. Sanctions and exchange-rate distortions reduce the reliability and international comparability of the figures.
