About this indicator

Release Aproximadamente un mes después del periodo de referencia.
What it isIsrael's retail sales (retail trade) measure the volume of goods sold by retail chains and outlets. Published by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), they are a reference for tracking household consumption.
How it's calculatedThey are built from a survey of retail firms on their turnover, from which an index against a base year is constructed. They are released in volume (deflated) terms, seasonally adjusted, with a month-on-month change and often as a trend series.
Market implicationsThey give an early read on private consumption, the largest component of Israel's GDP, making them an input for growth estimates and for the policy of the Bank of Israel and the shekel (ILS).
LimitationsIt is a volatile indicator, sensitive to seasonal factors (strongly shaped by the Jewish holiday calendar), promotions and the calendar. Preliminary data are revised and it does not capture spending on services.
