Release
Published annually, referring to a specific date in the year.
What it is
Records the number of inhabitants in Côte d'Ivoire and how it changes over time. Published by the National Institute of Statistics (INS), it is a structural indicator underpinning many economic and social ratios (GDP per capita, density, per-head rates, etc.).
How it's calculated
The INS derives the figure from population censuses and statistics on births, deaths and net migration, updating the population to an annual reference date. Regional immigration has been a notable driver of growth.
Market implications
Demographic trends shape potential growth, the labour market, consumption and public spending. In Côte d'Ivoire, a young and fast-growing population offers growth potential but demands jobs, education and services.
Limitations
It is a low-frequency figure; inter-census estimates are subject to revision once new censuses arrive. Statistical coverage and sizeable regional migration flows widen the margin of error.
