What it isIt is an indicator of changes in consumer prices. Only includes household consumption, which does not include consumption of farmers or fishermen, or single-person households. It also ignores donations, contributions or any religious concept as taxes or mandatory obligations to family members.
How it's calculatedTo calculate the index a study on the evolution of prices is done. It draws on a basket of goods and services of some 580 products from more than 167 cities. a study once a month in the week that is the 12th day of the month is done. Once you have the prices of the various products, fixed base index is calculated taking into account the weight of the goods included in the consumer basket type Japanese.
Market implicationsLike any consumer price index is indicative of the evolution of prices of consumer goods economy to which it refers. This is an indicator of inflation in the economy and is used by the monetary authorities to make decisions about monetary policy.
LimitationsIt does not indicate changes in the cost of living, resulting from changes in the structure of household consumption.
