GDP (annual) in Kazakhstan

Annual Gross Domestic Product (GDP) measures the total value of all final goods and services produced in Kazakhstan over a year. Published by the Bureau of National Statistics (ASPIRE), it is the broadest gauge of the size and pace of growth of the Kazakh economy.

It is estimated from the output side (gross value added by industry plus taxes on products), the expenditure side (consumption, investment, government spending and net trade) and the income side, which should match. Reported in tenge at current and constant prices, with the real annual growth rate measured against the previous year.

It is the main reference for judging the health of Kazakhstan's cycle, which is heavily tied to oil and commodities. Stronger-than-expected growth points to higher revenues and employment and may prompt tighter National Bank of Kazakhstan policy; a weak reading opens the door to stimulus and weighs on the tenge.

It is released with a lag relative to the reference period and early estimates are revised in later publications. As a heavily hydrocarbon-dependent economy, the figure can swing sharply with commodity prices and may not fully capture non-oil activity.
