Population in Kuwait

Measures the total number of inhabitants of Kuwait and how it changes over time. It is a structural indicator used as the base for ratios such as GDP per capita, population density and per-head rates.

The figure is compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau from population censuses and administrative registers, updated with births, deaths and net migration. It is usually released as an annual figure referring to a set reference date.

Demographic trends shape the economy's potential growth, labour supply, consumption and public spending. In Kuwait, where foreign workers are the majority, the expatriate share is central to the labour market. It is a long-term context indicator with little immediate impact on the currency or interest rates.

It is a low-frequency series: intercensal figures are estimates subject to revision once a new census or better migration data become available, and are heavily dependent on movements of the expatriate workforce.
