About this indicator

EUROSTAT
Frequency
Monthly
Release
Roughly one to two months after the reference quarter closes (advance estimate and final figure).
What it is
GDP measures the value of all final goods and services produced in Latvia over a period and is the broadest gauge of the size and growth of its economy. It is compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSP) under EU standards.
How it's calculated
Estimated under the ESA 2010 framework, reconciling the output, expenditure and income approaches in seasonally adjusted chain-linked volumes. Quarter-on-quarter and year-on-year changes are released as a flash estimate with subsequent revisions.
Market implications
It is the benchmark for Latvia's cycle, a small, open Baltic economy within the euro area. Its path affects jobs and public finances and adds, in aggregate, to the ECB's reading of the wider euro area.
Limitations
The first flash estimate is later revised and is not final. In a small, open economy, swings in external trade and investment can move the quarterly figure sharply.
