Release
Published annually, covering the full year and subject to revision.
What it is
Measures the share of Morocco's labour force that is jobless and actively seeking work. Published by the High Commission for Planning (HCP) from its national employment survey.
How it's calculated
Derived as the unemployed divided by the labour force, in per cent, following ILO criteria, from a continuous household survey. The annual figure summarises the quarterly rounds.
Market implications
Unemployment, worsened by droughts that hit farm jobs and by high urban youth joblessness, is a socially and politically sensitive variable. Its path matters to investors and institutions as a signal of stability rather than a direct driver of Bank Al-Maghrib policy.
Limitations
Sensitivity to the farming season adds strong volatility, and informality means open unemployment understates underutilisation. Annual survey data carry sampling error and revisions.
