About this indicator

SourceStatistics Norway
FrequencyMensual
Release Aproximadamente 25-26 dias despues del fin del mes de referencia.
What it isNorway's retail sales volume index (retail trade, excluding sale and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles), seasonally adjusted. Published by Statistics Norway (SSB), it tracks household spending on retail goods.
How it's calculatedSSB builds a volume index (deflated, 2021=100) from the turnover reported by retailers, seasonally adjusted. The monthly change (MoM, %) is derived from the seasonally adjusted index.
Market implicationsIt is a leading indicator of Norwegian private consumption; sustained declines point to weaker GDP from the domestic-demand side, which Norges Bank watches for its rate decisions.
LimitationsA volatile series prone to sizeable revisions between consecutive releases. The seasonal adjustment is recomputed each month as new data arrive, which can shift earlier months.
