Annual
Release
Published annually, referring to a specific date in the year.
What it is
Measures the total population of Panama and how it evolves over time. It is compiled by the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC), part of the Comptroller General's Office, and is a structural indicator underpinning ratios such as GDP per capita and population density.
How it's calculated
The figure comes from the population and housing census and from intercensal projections updated with births, deaths and net migration. It is reported as the population at an annual reference date.
Market implications
Demographics shape Panama's potential growth, labour supply and domestic demand. It is a structural release with little market impact but relevant to public planning and social spending.
Limitations
It is a low-frequency figure, and intercensal numbers are projections subject to revision with each new census or better migration data, and are also sensitive to transit-migration flows.
