Release
Published annually, covering the full year and subject to revision.
What it is
Gross Domestic Product (GDP) measures the value of all final goods and services produced in Paraguay over a year. It is published by the Central Bank of Paraguay (BCP) and is the broadest gauge of the size and pace of growth of the economy.
How it's calculated
The BCP compiles GDP from the expenditure, production (sector value added plus net taxes) and income sides. It is expressed in guaraníes at current and constant prices, with the real year-on-year change measuring growth.
Market implications
It is the key reference for Paraguay's cycle, closely tied to the soybean harvest and hydropower. Firm growth supports jobs, revenue and the guaraní, whereas a poor harvest can sink the figure in a single year.
Limitations
It is released with a lag and early estimates are revised later. Heavy reliance on farming and weather makes the year-on-year figure volatile, and the informal economy is not fully captured.
