Release
Published annually, covering the full year and subject to revision.
What it is
Annual Gross Domestic Product (GDP) measures the value of all final goods and services produced in Peru over a year. Published by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), it is the broadest gauge of the size and pace of growth of the Peruvian economy.
How it's calculated
It is estimated from the output side (sector value added plus taxes), the expenditure side and the income side, which should agree. Reported in soles at current and constant prices, with the real annual growth rate measured against the previous year; mining carries a notable weight.
Market implications
It is the key reference for assessing Peru's cycle, highly exposed to mining and metal prices. Solid growth underpins revenues and employment; a weak reading weighs on the sol and reinforces caution at the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP).
Limitations
It is released with a lag and early estimates are revised. The strong reliance on mining and commodity prices adds volatility, and a sizeable share of the economy is informal and hard to measure accurately.
