About this indicator

Source
Statistics Poland
Frequency
Quarterly
Release
Roughly one to two months after the reference quarter closes (advance estimate and final figure).
What it is
Gross Domestic Product (GDP) measures the value of all final goods and services produced in Poland over a period. Published by Statistics Poland (GUS), it is the broadest gauge of the size and pace of the Polish economy.
How it's calculated
GUS estimates it via the expenditure, output and income approaches, which must reconcile, using seasonally adjusted data under Eurostat's ESA framework. It is released in levels and as quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) and year-on-year (YoY) growth.
Market implications
It is the main cyclical reference for one of central Europe's largest economies. Strong growth supports the zloty and gives the National Bank of Poland (NBP) room to keep rates high, while a slowdown would bring forward cuts and weigh on the currency.
Limitations
It is released with a lag and the flash estimate is later revised, so the first figure is not final. The breakdown by component tends to arrive after the rapid estimate, and items such as investment and consumption add quarterly volatility.
