About one month after the reference period (monthly or quarterly depending on the country).

What it is

The unemployment rate is the share of jobless people in Poland's total labour force. Compiled by Statistics Poland (GUS), it is the country's main labour-market gauge.

How it's calculated

Poland publishes both the registered unemployment rate, from those listed at labour offices, and the Labour Force Survey rate (ILO criteria). A person is counted as unemployed if they are without work, available and actively seeking a job. Frequency is monthly (registered) or quarterly (survey).

Market implications

It reflects the momentum of the Polish economy and labour-market tightness. A strong market supports consumption and wages and is a key variable for the National Bank of Poland (NBP) when setting rates and assessing inflationary pressure.

Limitations

The registered unemployment rate tends to run higher than the ILO survey rate and depends on administrative registration criteria, so the two are not directly comparable. The data show marked seasonality and are subject to revisions.
