Annual
Release
Published annually, covering the full year and subject to revision.
What it is
Measures the evolution of wages in Poland, that is the average gross pay received by workers, chiefly in the enterprise sector. Published by Statistics Poland (GUS), it is a key gauge of household income and of cost-driven inflation.
How it's calculated
Derived from labour-cost and earnings surveys and administrative records, and usually reported as the year-on-year change in average gross pay and as a level in the national currency (zloty).
Market implications
Wages are the main component of household income and a large share of business costs, so their path is decisive for consumption and for the inflationary pressures watched by the National Bank of Poland. Strong wage growth tends to argue for tighter monetary policy.
Limitations
Definitions and coverage are not always harmonised with other countries; the figure is sensitive to the composition of employment, to bonuses and to seasonal factors, and is subject to revision.
