Release	Aproximadamente un mes después del periodo de referencia (mensual o trimestral según el país).
What it is	The unemployment rate is the share of jobless people in the total labour force. It is the main gauge of Romania's labour market and of the economy's ability to create jobs. It is published by the National Institute of Statistics (INS) using ILO criteria.
How it's calculated	It is derived from the Labour Force Survey run by INS among a sample of households, using ILO criteria: a person is unemployed if they are without work, available to work and actively seeking a job. The harmonised criteria allow international comparison.
Market implications	Its path reflects the momentum of the Romanian economy. A tight labour market fuels wage and price pressures watched by the National Bank of Romania, which runs its own monetary policy with the leu outside the euro.
Limitations	It is worth distinguishing whether the rate moves because of shifts in labour demand or in the labour force, including emigration. Survey data are subject to sampling error and revision, and a sizeable informal economy can bias the measurement.
