About this indicator

SourceSingapore Department of Statistics
FrequencyQuarterly
Release Publicación anual, referida al conjunto del ejercicio y sujeta a revisión.
What it isGross Domestic Product (GDP) measures the total value of all goods and services produced in Singapore over a period. This release captures the year-on-year growth of real GDP and is published by the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI), first as an advance estimate and later revised.
How it's calculatedThe MTI estimates GDP from the output and demand sides and publishes a quarterly series. This indicator reports the year-on-year (YoY) change in real GDP; the MTI also releases the seasonally adjusted, annualised quarter-on-quarter rate.
Market implicationsAs a small, open economy and Asia's trade and financial hub, Singapore's GDP is read as an early barometer of global trade and Asian demand. A strong print supports the Singapore dollar (SGD), which the MAS manages through the exchange rate rather than interest rates.
LimitationsThe advance estimate is based on partial data from the first two months of the quarter and is frequently revised. Given the weight of manufacturing and external trade, the series is volatile and highly sensitive to the global technology cycle.
