Population in Slovenia

Measures the number of inhabitants of Slovenia and how it changes over time. It is published by the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia (SURS) and is a structural indicator that underpins many economic and social ratios, such as GDP per capita, density and per-head rates.

Derived from administrative population registers and from statistics on births, deaths and net migration. It is usually reported as a headcount at a quarterly or annual reference date.

Demographic trends shape potential growth, the labour market, consumption and spending on pensions and healthcare. In Slovenia, an ageing population and low birth rate strain the sustainability of the pension system.

It is a low-frequency series, and although the administrative register makes it fairly reliable, estimates can still be revised as new censuses or better migration statistics are incorporated.
