Release
Published annually, covering the full year and subject to revision.
What it is
Gross Domestic Product (GDP) measures the value of all final goods and services produced in Tunisia over a year. It is published by the National Institute of Statistics (INS) and is the broadest gauge of the size and pace of growth of the economy.
How it's calculated
The INS compiles GDP from the expenditure, production (sector value added plus net taxes) and income sides. It is expressed in dinars at current and constant prices, with the real year-on-year change measuring the economy's growth.
Market implications
It is the key reference for Tunisia's cycle, sensitive to tourism, farming and European demand. Firm growth supports jobs and revenue, whereas a weak reading deepens fiscal strains and pressure on the dinar.
Limitations
It is released with a lag and early estimates are revised later. Reliance on tourism and the farming season raises volatility, and a large informal economy is not fully reflected.
