Release Dos meses más tarde del período al que se refiere. (07:00 GMT)
What it isThe UK Trade Balance summarises all trade transactions in goods and services between British residents and the rest of the world over a given period. It is published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and is broken down into total trade, trade with the EU and trade with non-EU countries.
How it's calculatedIt is obtained as the difference between the value of exports and imports of goods and services between UK residents and the rest of the world. The ONS publishes the balance in pounds sterling, in both nominal and seasonally adjusted terms, distinguishing between the goods and the services balance.
Market implicationsNet exports form part of GDP, so an improving balance points, in principle, to a stronger contribution to the economy. The indicator also reflects the competitiveness of British goods and services and is linked to the price level and to sterling's exchange rate.
LimitationsThe published figures are not final, as each release revises those of the previous period, and they arrive with a lag of around two months. The UK balance is also highly sensitive to one-off movements in non-monetary gold and high-value goods, which can distort any single month.
