Release
Tuesday, 08:15 ET, except in the week of ADP's monthly NER (Wednesday). The reference week ends on the Saturday about two weeks before publication.
What it is
A weekly pulse from the ADP National Employment Report: a four-week moving average of the weekly change in US private-sector employment, in thousands, estimated from ADP's anonymised client payrolls. Launched in late 2025 as a high-frequency gauge of the US labour market.
How it's calculated
The week-on-week change in seasonally adjusted private employment (weeks ending on Saturday), smoothed with a four-week moving average. The readings are preliminary and are revised as further payrolls are added.
Market implications
It is the earliest read on US private hiring, tracking the labour market week by week between the monthly reports (ADP and non-farm payrolls). A strong print tends to support the dollar and yields, while a weak one points to cooling.
Limitations
A preliminary, heavily revised series (each release revises prior weeks); it comes from a private source (ADP's client base, not an official census); and it remains very volatile week to week despite the four-week smoothing.
