What it is
It is an indicator of Business Confidence fifth of the twelve federal districts. At the end of each month the answers to the survey of about 100 executives of manufacturing companies (200 to the questionnaire sent to them) of the federal district of Richmond received. It is published on the fourth Tuesday of the month.
How it's calculated
It is based on a survey in which each question has three possible answers: increases / equal / reductions. Subsequently, the percentage of responses indicating "increases" they represent "decreases" is subtracted. All this in terms of the current situation and the outlook for the next six months.
Market implications
This indicator gives us a vision of manufacturing the Richmond district that encompasses Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia and Columbia. This indicator contains information on the expectations of industry executives serving as a leading indicator of national and regional manufacturing sector; also gives information on the evolution of prices so we can serve to detect inflationary pressures.
