About this indicator

Release Publicación anual, referida al conjunto del ejercicio y sujeta a revisión.
What it isThe Industrial Production Index measures the volume of output of Vietnamese industry (manufacturing, mining and energy supply). Published by the General Statistics Office (GSO), it is one of the most closely watched cyclical indicators because it anticipates the cycle.
How it's calculatedIt is expressed as an index against a base year (index 100), aggregating industrial branch sub-indices weighted by their share of value added. It is typically followed as an annual (YoY) rate of change.
Market implicationsExport-oriented manufacturing (electronics, textiles, footwear) is the engine of Vietnamese growth, so this figure is a key gauge of global demand and of the health of Asian supply chains.
LimitationsThe Lunar New Year (Tet) heavily distorts the early months of the year, so the year-to-date or annual figures are usually watched to avoid the seasonal effect. It is subject to revisions and one-off factors.
