Release	INEGI publica el IMAI alrededor del dia 12 del segundo mes posterior al de referencia (08:00 hora de Mexico).
What it is	The Monthly Indicator of Industrial Activity (IMAI) tracks the volume of output across Mexico's four industrial sectors: mining; electricity, water and gas supply; construction; and manufacturing. It is released monthly by INEGI.
How it's calculated	INEGI computes a physical-volume index with a 2018 = 100 base from production surveys and records, publishing it as original, seasonally adjusted and trend-cycle series. It is followed through its month-on-month and year-on-year changes.
Market implications	It is a key coincident gauge of Mexico's cycle: industry, and export manufacturing in particular, is closely tied to US demand. Stronger-than-expected data support the peso and a tighter stance from Banxico; weak data do the opposite.
Limitations	The original series is very volatile because of calendar effects (working days, Easter week) and the weight of construction, which is sensitive to public spending, so the seasonally adjusted series is the one to watch. It is also revised in later releases.
